Who wants to win some Trophies?

Trophies party gameI guess I should really ask, “who doesn’t want to win a trophy?”

After all, don’t we all love the accolades that come with winning a trophy?

We may not want another thing to dust on our shelves, the the joy of winning something can last a long time.

And it may be even better when you can win a trophy in under 10 minutes!

That’s the way it is in the new game, Trophies, by Facade Games.

How to play Trophies

Trophies is a super quick game that keeps everyone on their toes and thinking quickly.

The goal in Trophies is to be the player who ends up with the most Trophy cards. And players gain Trophy cards by being the first to shout out a fitting answer.

Trophies comes with 70 Trophy cards to win.

Each game 1 player will act as the judge. The rest of the players will all be in the running for Trophy cards.

Each Trophy card is double-sided — with a large letter on one side and 5 prompts on the other.

The judge shuffles the deck of cards and holds the deck up so all other players can see the letter side of the deck of cards.

Then the judge pulls a card from the back and places it in the front. The judge then reads aloud one of the prompts from the card at the back of the deck.

The judge holds up the deck for all to see the front, then reads a prompt from the back.

The players race to shout out a response that begins with the letter they see and fits the prompt read by the judge.

The judge determines who was the first to give a fitting answer and then hands them the front Trophy card (the letter just used).

Play continues that way until all the cards are gone.

Players count up their cards and see who wins. Whoever has the most cards wins the metal trophy!

And that’s all there is to it.

Can the whole family enjoy playing Trophies?

As you might imagine, Trophies is a game that almost everyone can play. As long as you can read (and understand) the letter on the front of the cards, you can play. Which means the recommended age of 8+ will be up to you to decide for your kids.

There may be some prompts that may be tougher for kids to think of an answer for, but that could even be said for some adults. Of course, depending on the letter showing, some prompts may be more challenging for all players.

But that’s the fun of the game — seeing how creative you can be when confronted with a prompt and a letter that don’t seem to easily fit.

Take a look at the photo below showing a bunch of prompts to get an idea of what’s in store.

So many prompts to choose from.

Players can decide before playing if they want to stick with a particular color on the cards for each prompt of if it will be at the judge’s discretion which prompt to pick each time.

For example, they could choose to read the second prompt on all cards (light blue).

One of the things that makes the game so replayable is that the judge reads a prompt from a card that isn’t the letter showing. That way, every time that letter comes up, there will be different prompts to choose from.

And that’s very nice because you’re going to want to play multiple times!

For starters, the judge will want to have a turn at being one of the contestants. And also because the game goes by so quickly.

The letters are nice and large so everyone can easily see them.

While there are 70 Trophy cards — making the deck feel thick — game play is quick.

The judge puts a card in front, reads a very short prompt (often just one word) and players shout answers.

Boom — on to the next card.

Trophies party gameOf course, there also are a lot of cool tidbits of information on each card that are fun to read. But we’ve found that the time for reading them isn’t during the game. That just slows things down. And this is a game about quick thinking.

And because the game can accommodate many players, it makes for a great activity for the whole family. In fact, we feel like it’s more of an “activity” than a “game”. Yes, there is competition. And yes, there is a winner. But it’s really just fun to shout out answers.

So, if you’re looking for a fun activity that can involve a lot of people at your next family gathering, and you don’t mind people shouting, grab a copy of Trophies!
