It’s a tribe battle for supremacy in Ethnos

In Ethnos, by CMON, players channel the help of giants, merfolk, halflings, minotaurs, and other fantasy tribes to help them gain control of the land and gain Glory. After 3 Ages of play, whoever has the most Glory wins!

When we first saw Ethnos, it made us think about Small World – another fun area control game with a variety of fantasy creatures. But once we looked further, we realized both games are vastly different in how they play out.

It’s time to take a closer look at Ethnos, it’ll be worth your while.

Clue: The Legend of Zelda board game review

Normally we’d stay clear of various themed versions of popular board games like Clue. However, there are a few instances where we make exceptions. And this is one of those times!

Why? First of all, because our family loves playing Clue. And second, because all the guys in our family are HUGE Legend of Zelda fans!

Clue: The Legend of Zelda is a keeper for us and we’re happy to tell you why.

Codenames: Disney Family Edition board game review

One of our most played games both last year and this year has been Codenames.

Well, I should clarify that last year it was the original Codenames and this year it’s been Codenames: Pictures.

But that’s not all because Czech Games and USAopoly also recently published Codenames: Disney Family Edition!

The big question then is, “is it a good game?”

Race to the top in Dicey Peaks

As I look out our front window at the snowy peaks along the Wasatch Range, I’m sure glad there aren’t any Yetis around here. Because if there were, it would make our winter snowshoeing in the mountains a bit more treacherous.

My opinion is quite different when it comes to Yetis in the new, fun dice game Dicey Peaks by Calliope Games. Bring on the Yetis!

One of our favorite cooperative board games from last year is Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle.

We really enjoy working together as Hogwarts heroes to defeat the Villains before they can take control of Potter-world locations.

So when we heard USAopoly was publishing an expansion called The Monster Box of Monsters, we were anxious to give it a go.

Photosynthesis is more than just pretty trees

If you know someone who thinks board games are as fun as watching trees grow, how about challenging them to a new board game where you watch trees grow!

Ha – wouldn’t that be fun!

Board games come in all shapes and sizes and cover an unending array of themes. So having a game about growing trees isn’t really too surprising. But making such a game good is another matter.

We’re happy to report that Photosynthesis is a fantastic board game!

Have you ever wondered what life would be like as a dog?

Well, now there’s a good option for seeing life through the eyes of a dog in the new family board game, A Dog’s Life!

A Dog’s Life let’s players take on the role of a dog when they step away from their master for a bit of fun. They’ll roam the neighborhood, beg in restaurants, deliver newspapers, search through trash cans, drink from fountains, piddle on lamp posts, and bury bones all while staying clear of the dog catcher.

Abyss board game review

Abyss was published in 2014 by Bombyx and immediately got a lot a buzz in the board game realms. Some of the buzz was about the game play. But most of the buzz was about the evocative artwork.

After taking a closer look, I added it to my ‘want to play’ list and anxiously awaited a chance to play it.

That chance first came for me at SaltCon 2016 – and I loved it!
