As we’ve written about in the past, we love Thanksgiving. We love taking time to pause and think of all the things we’re grateful for.
Last year we followed a tip we’d heard about and got a big roll of cash register tape to write down things we’re thankful for. We started writing on it while on our drive to grandma’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. But the half hour drive wasn’t nearly enough time to get it all down.

Well, you’re about to find out because today we’re taking a peak at what Jaden considers to be the best board games, card games, and party games.
Jaden is our 14 (soon to be 15) year old son and with our board game shelves full of over 300 games, he’s played hundreds of games. He’s also at the stage where he’s pretty particular about what he spends his time doing.

We get asked a simple question a lot this time of year. “What are the best family board games?” and “What board games should we get for our family?”
This year we’re trying something different. We thought it would be a good idea to share the perspective of each member of our family on what games they’d put at the top of such a list. So rather than just getting dad’s summary and having it go on and on with so many great board games and card games. We’re giving you the perspective of everyone else (then maybe dad will sneak something in in the end).

Out of the Box publishing attempted to set a World Record last night of the most people playing a word game – Word on the Street.
It was conducted during half-time of the BYU / Idaho football game played in Provo, UT. And we only say “attempted” because we don’t yet know if it set a record or not. But we think it was a great way to try to set a record.

Our nephew (and cousin) returned last week from his 2 year church mission and we got to spend the extended weekend with their family catching up on many things as well as playing lots of board games!
Knowing that we’d be spending a long weekend at their home, and that Jake loves playing board games, we had the tough choice of which games we should first introduce him to upon his return. We wanted to take games he’d already be familiar with, but we also wanted to play games that we’ve added to our game shelves over the last 2 years that we thought he’d love.

I just played my 100th board game this year!
And we picked a great family board game to play for the 100th different game played – Stone Age!

Our family loves cooperative board games!
The first time we played a cooperative board game we knew we’d found something cool. There weren’t hurt feelings from being beat. And there weren’t accusations of being picked on by a sibling. Instead there was a lot of teamwork as we tried to win the game together.
