Must play board game for driver’s license
Our second son is currently working on earning his driver’s license. In order to get his license he must first take a driver’s education course, carry a pre-driver’s license permit for 6 months during which he must log 40 hours of driving with a parent/adult, then pass the driver’s test. Once he’s done all that, he’s legally able to drive a car on his own.
But nowhere in all those mandatory requirements is “must play a board game”.
However, in Sierra Leone playing a board game is now mandatory!
“Described as a cross between Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, and even Scrabble, the game features trivia questions that quiz potential drivers on everything from what signage means, to basic driving etiquette.”
Maybe this is a start of a new trend.
- Want to be a Pilot = must play Airlines Europe
- Want to be a Train Conductor = Steam or Ticket to Ride
- Want to be a Policeman = Police Precinct
- Want to be a Chef = Mamma Mia! or Wasabi
- Want to be a School Food Worker = Food Fight
- Want to be a Travel Agent = 10 Days in Africa
- Want to be the best Fighter Pilot in the Galaxy = Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures
Ok – so maybe there aren’t any current job openings for that last one. But one can dream.
Even it’s not a trend though, I think Jaden would be more than happy to play a board game to get his driver’s license. With as many board games as he’s played, if that were a requirement for him, he’d have no problem getting his license.
But really – if you’re going to have to play a board game to earn your driver’s license, why pick a game with a cross between “Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, or Scrabble“? Why not just go straight to PitchCar?
What board game would you recommend drivers play first?
As a kid I used to play Mille Bornes, not so much anymore. Now I’d probably suggest Formula D. Of course maybe those games would encourage speeding and not be such a great idea.
Or maybe take a few routes on Rallyman.
