I love being a father

The Board Game Family
Family – Best use of time ever!
I saw a video online yesterday about fathers that I’m so eager to share.

I know in the U.S. we don’t celebrate Father’s Day until June, but I love sharing thoughts about fathers all the time.

One of the main reasons I established The Board Game Family site was to share the joy I have in being a father and spending time with my family. In today’s hectic world, I think it’s so important to often reflect on our priorities in life and make sure we’re on the right track. If we don’t, we’re sure to get swept away wherever the current takes us.

I remember early in life looking forward to the day when I would be a father. It was in those early years that I first hoped I could be a good father when my chance came. And oh, how I hoped I’d get that chance.

As parents everywhere know, it’s a tough job. It’s easy to lose focus of the joys of parenting during tantrums, sibling fights, defiant stances, and the chauffeuring busyness. But if we can stick with it and frequently take time to reflect, our most important priorities come back into focus.

And I love Sundays for the chance I have to reflect and reset for the week ahead. And I also love videos like this one – that remind me of how important my role as Father really is.

So to Fathers and Mothers everywhere – please don’t lose sight of what you’re doing. You’re laying the foundation of a great work. And it will be worth it.

God bless you in all your efforts to be the best parent you can be!

And for added measure, here’s a bonus video and song to help you through your day…

Have a great week!

  • Thanks for sharing this, Trent! Reminds me of a great poem:

    Only a Dad
    … But the Best of Men.
    Only a dad, with a tired face,
    Coming home from the daily race;
    Bringing little of gold and fame
    To show how well he has played the game,
    But glad in his heart that his own rejoice
    To see him come home and to hear his voice.
    Only a dad, of a brood of four,
    One of ten million men or more,
    Plodding along in the daily strife,
    Bearing the whips and scorns of life
    With never a whimper of pain or hate,
    For the sake of those who at home await.
    Only a dad, neither rich nor proud,
    Merely one of the surging crowd,
    Toiling, striving, from day to day,
    Facing whatever may come his way;
    Silent, whenever the harsh condemn,
    And bearing it all for the love of them.
    Only a dad, but he gives his all
    To smooth the way for his children small;
    Doing, with courage stern and grim,
    The deeds that his father did for him.
    These are the lines that for him I pen;
    Only a dad, but the best of men.
