I’ve Never….The Outrageous Game of Truth

I don’t know how “outrageous” this game is, but Brooke sure likes it and likes to take it along with us whenever we get together with extended family.

See why Brooke thinks I’ve Never… is a fun game in her quick video review of I’ve Never…the Outrageous Game of Truth.

Can the whole family enjoy I’ve Never…?

I've Never...
Are you ready to tell the world?

I’ve Never… is a family board game that could be enjoyed by a lot of people in your family. However, it’s not a board game well suited for younger players. It’s not a matter of content, but rather that they don’t typically have experience with the things written on the game cards and therefore don’t know what to say when they get a card. They might read it and just stare into space. So a lot of times we let them pass and then just go on to the next player.

On the other hand, your older relatives or in-laws might have some hidden nuggets that you might be surprised to discover. And using the guise of a board game to get them to open up just might be the best way to go about getting the stories out for all to hear. But then be careful when it comes back to you…

Full of crazy things to do and tell

How much ‘truth’ gets revealed in I’ve Never…?
In our games, there hasn’t been a lot of deep dark secrets getting revealed, but we can see how a group of friends and teenagers playing I’ve Never… could really get the stories rolling. However, a lot doesn’t get revealed simply because there are a lot of spaces you can land on the board that don’t make you take a card. So in the course of a game you many really not get a lot of chances to spill the beans – or hear others spill the beans.

The spaces on the board that we seem to always hit a lot are the dancing spaces. And maybe that’s another reason Brooke likes it – she likes to see dad dance around for 30 seconds every time he hits that spot (I really need to learn to roll better).

I've Never...
Get ready to roll.

How does I’ve Never… score on the “Let’s Play Again” meter?
Let’s just say that I’ve Never heard the kids shout out “let’s play again” right after completing a game of I’ve Never…. They enjoy it while it lasts and, as we mentioned above, Brooke likes to take it to family gatherings, but it’s not the type of game that we play back-to-back in our family. We play it once for some fun as a good way to start the night but then they feel they’ve shared enough ‘truth’ for one night and are ready to grab another game to play.

So if you’re looking for a game that can help start some conversations about the past, interspersed with other silly things (like dad’s dancing), then give I’ve Never… a try.

  • When families and teenagers play their own version of the game, the questions asked become so different it is hardly the same game!
