One of the most popular games on the planet is UNO.

Everyone knows how to play UNO.

Of course, many people also like to mix it up a bit and throw in their own house rules to the game.

If you’re one of those people who like the simplicity of UNO, but also wish there was a bit more to it, you’re in luck.

Today we’re reviewing a game that’s like UNO with a twist. It’s call Piña Pirata by iello!

Check out Caleb’s video review of Piña Pirata to see how to play and why he likes it.

Can the whole family enjoy playing Piña Pirata?

Piña Pirata is a card game the whole family can enjoy playing together.

As you can see in Caleb’s video review, it’s a basic card matching game where the first player to get rid of all their cards wins. And that’s easy for players of almost any age to understand.

The art on the cards is fantastic. Each pirate type has an associated color so it’s easy to notice matches. In addition, the cards include icons in the corners so players can easily see what they have in their hands.

It’s easy to see which cards you have in hand. I have a lot of crocodiles.

Yet Piña Pirata adds more in the form of special rules that get added upon every round. So as the game progresses, more and more rules get added and players will have to keep track of them all.

But keeping track of the different rules shouldn’t be a problem for younger players. You’ll be surprised at how apt they are to remember the differences – sometimes even better than the adults playing.

Things to keep in mind

Piña Pirata card game
Sometimes it’s tough to get rid of your last cards depending on the rules in play.

As we mentioned in the video, one thing to keep in mind in Piña Pirata is that the number of players will impact the game length.

There are two main reasons why.

The first is that the game ending condition is for one player to win 3 rounds. So if you’re playing with 3 players, the most rounds you may play is 7. However, if you’re playing with a full 6 players, it may take up to 13 rounds to get a winner. And for a simple game of matching cards, that’s a bit too much for us.

The other reason is related to the first. The more rounds you play, the more special rules will come into play. And every rule added also adds a bit more time to finish a round. That’s mainly because some rules make it harder to get rid of your cards and some of those are sure to find their way into the game.

Our solution is simple: Choose how long you want to play and just play until that time’s up. Then see who won the most rounds to get your final winner.

Pina Pirata card gamePiña Pirata gets favorable scores on our “let’s play again” game meter mainly because it’s such a simple game to play. It’s an easy one to pull out and play without needing to remember a bunch of rules – because those rules twists come up during the game play itself.

It’s also a good game to introduce to new players because they’re most likely already familiar with UNO and this just adds some fun twists.

If you’re looking for a light card game for players of all ages, Piña Pirata is a great one to get.
