Careers – Classic board game I still love!

Today we go back in time to review a game that I, dad, absolutely love from my childhood – Careers!

After all these years, I still love the Careers board game! It’s a game from my childhood that opened my mind to the many possibilities in board games. And it still holds up as a great game!

Episodes #349 and #350 of The Dice Tower podcast that are out this week include segments from contributors where we were asked “What game from your childhood do you remember the most?”

I didn’t hesitate at all.

Had a blast at SaltCON!

This weekend was SaltCON – the annual board game convention in Utah, USA – and it was a blast!

Although the event runs for 3 days, I just attended on Friday and Saturday. And even though I ended up leaving earlier than I had anticipated Saturday evening, I left feeling very full.

Full from a lot of great game playing and full from meeting a bunch of new friends.

Overall, I played 16 different board games!

Jungle Ascent – Race to the treasure

Jungle Ascent is a fun family board game that young and old can enjoy together.

Like many jungle games, players compete to claim treasure. But unlike other jungle games where players have to find and uncover the treasure, in Jungle Ascent the treasure is out in the open.

It just happens to be perched at the top of a steep cliff.

Fluxx The Board Game is a light, fun family board game with similar randomness to the Fluxx card games, but with a bit a strategy to boot. Who would have thought that Looney Labs could throw some strategy into their Fluxx games?

In fact BANG! is the card game that started us on this journey of reviewing fun family board games and card games in the fist place. This year will mark 5 years of reviewing games and BANG! is still one of our favorites.

If your kids love cute farm animals, then it’s likely they’ll enjoy My Happy Farm.

Kids will love feeding their animals to make them grow. And while they’re making their animals happy, they’ll also be developing some great thinking skills. (But they don’t need to know that.)

International Tabletop Day – April 5, 2014

International Tabletop Day kicked off it’s inaugural run last year and was a huge success.

There were 3,123 gaming events in 64 countries worldwide!

That’s a lot of gaming.

With a successful first run last year, of course that means International Tabletop Day will now be an annual event.

Our family was referenced in a news article this week that’s put big smiles on our faces!

We were pleasantly surprised to see us mentioned in The Deseret News article, “Which board games are right for your family?” earlier this week.

We weren’t just happy because we were referenced in the article. We were also happy to see such a great article outlining the wide variety of modern board games that families can enjoy playing together.

Descent Journeys in the Dark – Jam Packed

I finished a project this week that was a lot of fun for me. Since it involved foamcore cutting and gluing it seemed like a kid’s school project (which we’ve done plenty of getting 4 kids through elementary school years).

But the beauty of this project was that it was all mine. Nothing to be graded as a class assignment or judged in a science fair. In fact it will hardly be seen at all – most likely by just my boys and I – since it now resides inside a board game box.

It’s a way to organize all our Descent Journeys in the Dark 2nd edition board game components into 1 game box!
