More Broken Token Game Inserts

The Broken Token box organizers
The Broken Token box organizers are out of this world!

Last month we shared our thoughts about the 7 Wonders box organizer from The Broken Token.

Well, today we’re back with even more organizing goodness from The Broken Token.

But this time we’re going out of this world… looking at the organizers for both Cosmic Encounter and Among the Stars.

Right off the bat I’ll let you know that The Broken Token box organizers are the easiest of all the wooden box organizers / game inserts we’ve put together.

The instructions are super simple to follow, the wooden sheets are clearly labeled, the pieces come apart from the sheets very easily, and they snap together like a breeze.

Take a look at our visual journey today of these Broken Token organizers.

Cosmic Encounter

Our space journey today begins with Cosmic Encounter.

As you can see in our “before” photo, there’s a lot of components in the base game of Cosmic Encounter. Not only do all these components have a happy home in The Broken Token Cosmic Encounter box organizer, but there’s plenty of room to fit all 5 game expansions as well!

There’s plenty to fit in the box.

The first step in putting together The Broken Token organizer is to get familiar with the plans.

They’re very easy to follow and give good step-by-step instructions. and because each wooden sheet is labeled in the corner, there isn’t any confusion on which pieces are in the plan.

Let’s take a look at these plans.

Clearly labeled sheets.

The next step is to separate the pieces from the sheets.

And The Broken Token pieces come apart so easy!

It’s not that they fall out, but I didn’t need to put much pressure on them at all to get them to separate from the sheet.

In addition, they didn’t leave splinters along the edges. Only in a handful of instances did I need to use sandpaper to smooth edges from where the pieces had been held to the sheet.

They come apart like butter.

But the best part of all is that they also snap together like a breeze!

I was impressed with how smoothly the pieces went together. I didn’t need to force them together with too much pressure nor did they slide in too easily. Like Goldilocks would say, they’re “just right”.

And I only needed to use glue on two joints.

The dividers are also adjustable and slide nicely in place.

The ease of which the pieces separated from the sheets and snapped together without force or glue saved a ton of time in assembling these inserts.

I also love that the box organizer for Cosmic Encounter has some very nice touches. You can tell The Broken Token team pays attention to detail.

For example, the small elements that stack together even have indentions and extrusions that fit perfectly together. This way, they nest very nicely together.

The attention to detail is evident with the stacking trays.

Another spot of detail is shown in the trays for the colored player ships.

The ships sit nicely in grooved trays and they stack wonderfully together as well with a rounded edge and opening that feel like little handles to remove the trays from the game box.

The ships sit nicely organized and ready for play.

There’s also a large tray for all the Alien sheets. The base game comes with 50 Alien races and they hardly take up much room in the provided tray – leaving plenty of space for expansions.

The bottom of the tray also has two openings – making it easy to push through from the back. This way you won’t have trouble getting even the last sheet from the bottom of the tray.

All in all there are 9 trays to assemble to handle the different elements includes in Cosmic Encounter and its expansion games.

Great trays for all the components.

Really the only downside I can see at all with The Broken Token Cosmic Encounter box organizer is that there’s so much space left over. It’s not a problem with the parts shifting around – they stay nicely situated in their places.

The problem is that I now have more of an urge to buy expansions to fill the rest of it.

There’s plenty of room left. Guess it’s time to start getting the expansions.

Among the Stars

Before adding the organizer, everything was in baggies.

If I had the urge to buy more expansions to fit into the Cosmic Encounter box, then the urge should be even stronger for Among the Stars because there’s even more empty space in this game box after adding The Broken Token box organizer.

Of course, I should start out by acknowledging that the Among the Star box had a lot of empty space to begin with.

The good thing about Among the Stars in relation to components is that the base game came with its own baggies for the components. So right out of the gate, Artipia Games gave a nod to organization.

However, as you can see in the “before” picture on the right, all the cards, tokens and cubes are just tossed in the middle of the provided insert. They stay protected, but still rattle around.

That’s not the case now!

Let’s get Among the Stars organized!

Since there are less components in Among the Stars, the trays and card holders in The Broken Token box organizer are even quicker to assemble.

Like with Cosmic Encounter, the pieces separate nicely from the labeled sheets and the instructions are simple to follow.

Among the stars is a game where players use cards to represent their growing space enterprise. As such, the organizer mostly consists of two rows of card holders.

While the pieces still snapped together nicely, I did need to glue the corner connections so the base could be more stable.

Using tape to hold the edges while the glue dries.

The other trays nicely hold tokens as well as the clear cubes. You may even notice the bottom of one tray has labels so players can easily know which tokens go where.

Only a few trays are needed.

Now when we play Among the Stars set up is a breeze. We can also keep the tokens and components in their trays and pull from there when needed during play — rather than creating piles of items around the play area.

Everything has a place and there’s still plenty of space for expansions.

Even though the base game doesn’t take up much room in the box, the items aren’t rattling around anymore and we can store the box any direction we like on our game shelves without incident.

It’s also nice that the tray dividers are adjustable so we can make them as wide as we’d like — or as needed depending on the number of cards that get added through expansions.

Overall, we give both Cosmic Encounter and Among the Stars box organizers from The Broken Token two big thumbs up.

We’d also like to thank The Broken Token for providing these organizers for review.
