Treasure Chest for your game loot

Where do you store your game coins?

A couple weeks ago we heard about a game accessory that looks very cool. It’s a sweet looking Fantasy Treasure Chest to hold your gaming loot!

The first thing I’m sure we all think about when seeing a treasure chest is gold. What a perfect place to keep all our gold!

Of course, we don’t have any gold to store in it. But we do have a lot of board games that include money as either game currency or victory points (or both). And having a stash of game coins in this treasure chest could be pretty fun.

Imagine playing Small World with this Treasure Chest on the table to pull your money from. Pretty sweet!

There’s only one downside we can see to getting this Fantasy Treasure Chest: Putting cardboard money tokens in it just wouldn’t feel adequate.

To have something that cool for storing game money would force us to get a bunch of real coins to use in our games. And we’re not talking about quarters, dimes, and nickels. We mean sweet looking Fantasy Coins.

We’ve enjoyed using the coins in Dominion Seaside and in Black Fleet. They’re a nice touch over cardboard tokens for coins. But coins from those games wouldn’t even cover the bottom of this chest.

The information about the chest says it will hold up to 1,000 coins!

No sir, we’d have to step up our game and get some really cool and hefty coins to store in the chest. Then we could use those coins for any game that includes money.

It wouldn’t matter if the game is fantasy-themed or not.

  • Power Grid – you bet. I’d switch out the paper money with fantasy coins.
  • Pirate versus Pirate – no doubt. After all, this game is about grabbing coins and getting them back to the boat.
  • Monopoly – why not. (Of course, that would require us to play Monopoly, so maybe not.)
  • Fortune and Glory – absolutely! Let’s make that a real treasure/fortune hunt!
  • 7 Wonders – yes, again.

There’s also an option for different style keys.

I might even be tempted to start using coins to track points in Carcassonne instead of moving meeples on a score track.

But there’s no reason you have to limit the use of the Fantasy Treasure Chest to just money. There’s plenty of room in there to store dice and cards as well or to create some divider inserts as well.

The Kickstarter campaign started last week and is off to a great start. It’s already half-way funded and going strong.

So if it looks like a great accessory to your game closet, then jump on board!
