Bug Matching and Racing in Bug Out

Bug OutDo your kids love just running around the house?
What if you could incorporate a game into all the running from room to room?

Well if that’s the case, one of the new games from Out of the Box this year has you covered – Bug Out.
Bug Out is a recently released game targeted at the younger kids in your family. But that isn’t to say that you all can’t join in the fun.

Take a look at Brooke’s short video review to see what Bug Out is all about.

Can the whole family enjoy Bug Out?

Although we’ve enjoyed played Bug Out as a whole family, it’s definitely targeted towards young children. And we believe it’s actually the first Out of the Box game with suggested ages of 5+.

Bug Out
Cool bug characters to match.

As you can see from Brooke’s game video review, it’s really a simple family game of matching bugs and racing to be the first to find all your matches. Some have said it’s like a memory game where you’re trying to find the matches. But when we play, we don’t keep the bugs in the same place from game to game, so we can’t memorize where each bug is.

However, if in your course of finding a bug to match your card you keep in mind the bugs you pass, then using your memory will work to your advantage if/when you come across those bugs later in your stack.

When we’ve played along with the younger kids in our family we’re fine with alternating how many bug cards we start out with – giving the older players more cards to find. Or we’ll walk around rather than run to let the younger kids get an advantage.

But no matter how we play, it’s a lot of fun seeing the kids running around the rooms frantically searching for their matches.

Table or Floor?
Like Brooke said in her video review, Bug Out is a kids game that’s most fun when you spread the cards out over a large area (like we’ve written mostly about above). We’ve found that it gives the kids a bigger advantage as they sprint around the room, or multiple rooms to find their bugs. Plus you get the added benefit of letting their energy flow.

When we’ve played at the table, those that are taller get a better vantage point and can also reach farther to cover their bug matches across the table while the younger kids have a tougher time seeing and placing their matches.

How does Bug Out score on the “Let’s Play Again” meter?
Bug Out scores high on our “Let’s Play Again” game meter. It’s such a quick game that playing just once just won’t suffice. Bug Out is a game that screams out to be played again and again. And the great thing is that no one argues about it. They may argue about who gets to place (or throw) all the cards around for the next game, but they won’t complain about playing again. It’s just silly fun.

Thanks Out of the Box for a great kids game!
