S.O.S. I’m Stranded

April 17, 2311

Dear Diary,

Today… Well today was rather depressing. But let me start at the beginning…

It was all a vacation. The most elegant island in the world! That’s what it said on all of the brochures, that’s what all my friends back at home (safe, I must add) said, and most importantly, that’s what our late captain said. So I thought, What the heck?! And foolishly, I signed the contract to get away for three weeks (which was essentially signing away my life, I later realized) . . . (A little too late I might add).

So on March 27, we boarded the cruise ship, which was actually quite beyond my expectations! It had everything one would want; classes (including history, complete with a time machine!), an indoor skydiving simulator, an extreme hoverboard park, and a whole lot more! Not to mention the food was amazing.

If only we could have turned around while we still had time…

An Arial Photo Of The Island

We arrived on the island on April 3, and everyone was overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of it all. The island was amazing. Golden beaches that sparkled in the sunset, rich green forests that was home to at least 3 different species of monkeys not found anywhere else, and gorgeous mountain peaks that, if you were to hike them in the evening, the moon would be so bright that you would need sun glasses, not to mention all of the stars that appeared, glimmering like tiny glass marbles in water. If you stayed up there until morning, you would be able to see the sunrise just above the misty hills beneath you, shining a beautiful pinkish-orange color. If Heaven was located on earth, this would definitely be the location of it.

Yes, this island was definitely given an aura that just radiated beauty. Even the richest men in the world who have mansions on every continent in the most amazing places agree that this island has everything beat, by a long shot. It would have even been one of theirs long ago, had they not all gotten together and agreed that something as incredible as this could not be owned by anybody, so the whole island was not dictated by any country or single man.

Then the unthinkable happened.

On April 7, the day we were due to go home, we spotted one of the crew members running up to our little huts that we were staying in from the direction of the ship at about 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning, screaming. At first we couldn’t hear what he was saying, so we all walked lazily to the door (after our amazing first class breakfast) and tried to listen closer. Soon we were able to put some words together.

“Captain…Ship…Not good…Earthquake…Stranded!”

Now these were some words that, as you may imagine, got our hearts pumping, and so we ran down to meet the panting crew member, where he was able to tell us what he was trying to.

“The Captain is dead!” He finally gasped, after panting for a couple of seconds. “The ship’s hull has been split clean open, it was because of the earthquake last night!”  Hmmmmm… I thought. I did feel something last night… But I was too tired. I think I just rolled back over and went to sleep. “I only found the Captain inside his cabin this morning,” He continued. “And he had been crushed by the ceiling that had caved in! What’s even worse was that I was the only crew member able to get off before the whole harbor sunk into the ocean!”

Just then, the ground beneath us began to tremble, and the lady beside me screamed. We were doomed! It all happened so quickly. I was smart enough to decide to run inland with about 3 other people, but the lady who was screaming just stood there in shock, and the crew member was too tired to move (probably half from fatigue, half from shock as well), and he collapsed. As I got back up to where our huts were, I turned back, only too see water where we had just been.

The island is sinking!

For the next 9 days, me and the 3 that had originally come with me have been running. Trying to get to higher ground.

How will we ever Survive?

We would find water springs that were obviously clean, and we would rest a while to drink. For food we would gather berries or occasionally we would find some wildlife to kill for meat. But we knew that we had to get back to the mainland soon. How we were going to do that we didn’t know.

Then, today (the 17th) the other two built a makeshift raft and asked me if I wanted to come. I said no, but thanks. They were reluctant, but ready to get off the island, so they departed off of the mountain peak we were on (because that’s all that was left of the island was mountains). I climbed for about 20 minutes to get to the top of the mountain to watch my two friends sail off into the horizon. They were getting pretty small in the distance when most tragic thing I could ever fathom happened.

A sea monster appeared and ate them. Boat and all. It took no more than 3 seconds for the whole thing to take place.

So now I’m here on this lonely mountain peak, writing on a notepad I happened to have in my pocket with a pen that was with it. We had been using the paper mostly for fire starters, but now I see no need for fire. The island is almost gone anyway, and there’s no wood. So if by some happenstance that my record of this journey survives, just know this one thing:

If you’re ever planning on taking a vacation to the most extravagant island on the planet, don’t.

It’s gone now.

  • I wasn’t sure if this was going to be Survive or Forbidden Island, but either way, it was great. I’m really enjoying these stories (especially this one and the Pandemic tale)! Keep up the good work!
