Best Games of the Year – 2010

Once again the votes have been cast and the results are in. The Dice Tower Awards for the best board games and best card games of the year for 2010 have just been announced.

These are the best game of the year awards that are nominated and voted on by leading reviewers in the board game and card game industry each year. In June we listed all the games that were nominated for best game of the year and now the winners have been selected.

Best Game of the Year 2010

While there are 11 different categories here’s a sampling of some of the winners.

Forbidden Island 7 Wonders is still on our “want to play” list. We’ve heard a lot about it for quite some time, beginning with the buzz about it when it released last fall. And when we went to SaltCON earlier this year there were a number of groups playing it but we didn’t take the chance to play it.

If you’ve been watching our site for a while you should know how much we love Forbidden Island and think it’s the best value for your family gaming money out there. For only $15 you get tons of cooperative game fun with great components and artwork to boot.

Survive: Escape from AtlantisWe’re also big fans of Survive Escape from Atlantis and are so glad that Stronghold Games reprinted it. We bought a copy for Christmas last year and are so glad we did.

And we also really like the winner for Best Party Game – Wits & Wagers Family – the trivia game where you don’t have to know the answers to win. And with the great family and kid friendly questions everyone can have a great time guessing the answers and voting on who they think is the closest.

Wits & Wagers FamilyWe also really enjoy playing Dominion and the Prosperity expansion for it is a pretty good one. It adds a lot of great cards and higher valued items that kick the game up a notch and add more great fun.

  • 7 Wonders is amazing! Lots of strategy, plays as quickly with 3 people as it does with 7, and short enough that you can play a handful of games back-to-back if you like. This is one of my new favorites, and the game I pretty much gush about to everyone.

I was happy to see Puzzle Strike and Prolix in the nominees — both great games, too.
