Game Giveaway Contest!

With the launch of our updated website we’re in the giving mood. The Magic Labyrinth

So by courtesy of Boardgame Revolution we’re giving away a copy of The Magic Labyrinth – the game that won Kinderspiel de Jahres (Childrens Game of the Year) for 2009!

While we haven’t done a video review of the game yet, you can check out the details of the game at Board Game Geek.

There are many ways you can enter to win the game:

  1. Post a comment on TheBoardGameFamily.com telling us what your favorite game is to play with your family. Simply watch or read one of our reviews (or this entry) and post your comment at the bottom of the page.
  2. Subscribe to The Board Game Family on YouTube.
  3. Post a comment on one of our reviews on YouTube.
  4. “Like” The Board Game Family on Facebook.
  5. Add a comment on one of our posts in Facebook.
  6. Tweet or ReTweet about The Board Game Family on Twitter.
  7. Mention The Board Game Family on your own blog and send us a link to it.
  8. Send an email to your friends about our reviews and copy us on it (TheBoardGameFamily@gmail.com).

And the more you do, the more entries you get in the contest. So check out our game reviews and help spread the word. Then get back to playing with your family!

We also want to say a little more about our game giveaway sponsor Boardgame Revolution. They’re a great game store near our home with a wide game selection. And one of the things we like most is that they rent board games. So for a fraction of the cost of a game you can rent it for 10 days, play it at home and find out if you like it or not. And when you return the game, if you decide to buy a game (any game in the store) you can apply the amount you spent on the game rental toward your game purchase.

They also have great prices for purchasing games online as well if you don’t live nearby.

So go ahead and make your first entry in the contest by leaving a comment here on what your favorite game is to play with your family.

  • Love the new site. TBGF has been instrumental in helping my family choose games. So thanks! Our favorite games to play as a family are Fluch Der Mumie (my daughter) Pitch Car (my son) and Tsuro (all of us, got this idea from TBGF). Thanks for doing the contest.

  • I read about your new sight from the Daily Herald. I grew up loving monopoly and a few other old card games that I forget the names.
My daughter currently loves playing old maid.
Thank you for bringing family back into the gaming world!

  • The new site looks great!

The only real game that we can play as a family right now (since my daughter is only 2) is Go Away Monster! But it’s a lot of fun, and she loves it! My wife and I play a lot of games, though, and we will hopefully be an entire “Board Game Family” one day, too!

  • We’re big fans of boardgamegeek.com, Tom Vasel’s “The Dice Tower” reviews, boardgameswithscott reviews, and now theboardgamefamily.com! 🙂 Our favorite games to play as a family are
Schildkrötenrennen, Vikings (our 5 year old loves this one!), and Ingenious. We’re always willing to try new games (though dad is the one who has to read (and sometimes decipher) the rules haha). Keep up the great work and the excellent reviews!

  • It’s so hard to decide which games we love most! But our top favorites have to be dominoes (double 15 Mexican train), Quirkle, Tayu, and It Came to Pass. Close runners-up include old standbys Uno, Harry Potter Clue, Monoply and Life (the last two of the Sponge Bob variety at the insistence of our 9-year-old).

  • Great site, keep up the good work with the video reviews.

My boys (11 and 9) and I have been on a big Dominion kick lately and I would have to say that is our current ‘favorite’. We do play a bunch of Agricola with the Moors expansion, Race for the Galaxy, Hey! That’s my Fish! and some Tide of Iron to pass the time.

Thanks for holding a contest, this is great!

  • Magic Labyrinth ? Thats the game with the metal ball right?

Make more reviews! Video is so much better, I think what you guys are – doing introducing family friendly games and reviews, would help increase the accessibility of boardgames to the mass.

p.s. did you do the video in a playground or is that your backyard 0.0

  • Yes. The Magic Labyrinth is the game with the metal ball underneath that you try to navigate through a hidden, variable maze.
And we filmed this video on the playset in our backyard.

My husband’s family are Monopoly addicts. Last summer we sat out on their back patio and played a game for at least 6 hours. It was intense!

  • Neat site. I like the fact that I can read a little about each game without watching videos (they’re not very informative when you watch at work with sound muted, so I’m always begging for transcripts of video reviews–sigh).

Anyway, our biggest family hit lately is Set. Our 7-year-old enjoys it, but rarely if ever wins (not that that’s important and we play as teams to mitigate the competitiveness). Our 5-year-old is the master in terms of noticing the sets. But he dislikes losing and is the reason we play teams (his insistence).

  • My brother…a former mission companion…forwarded the link to your news paper articles. Very cool. I’d love a piece of that action.

I have four kids ages 6,5,4 & 2. Our favorite games include KinderBunnies, Hissss and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Just last night the whole family enjoyed a game of Uno Attack. To watch our 2 year old straighten the cards in his hand always makes us laugh.

My wife and I go through cycles of our “favorites” Currently it is Dominion and Pandemic. Previously we enjoyed San Juan, Ticket to Ride, Settlers (a modified version for 2 players) and Rummikub. We would probably rather play a game than just about anything…and usually do.
