Word on the Street = Fun

Word on the Street party game
Great family and party game!

Word on the Street is a party game that’s a ton of fun.

But if you just say it’s “Fun” then you won’t get very far in the game, so you better go with “Entertaining” – because with that word you could capture the “N” to your side of the street and be one letter closer to winning.

If you don’t have a clue what we’re talking about, then you better check out the video review of both Word on the Street and Word on the Street Junior.

Can the whole family enjoy Word on the Street?

Sure they can. Although we bet your kids will tend to like the Word on the Street Junior version more.

Why?

Well, if you couldn’t tell from the video review, one of the main reasons why Word on the Street Junior is nice for kids is that it includes all of the letters of the alphabet. One of the things that catches people off-guard when playing Word on the Street for the first time is that vowels aren’t included. And it’s pretty hard to spell a word without vowels. So by simply adding the vowels to Word on the Street Junior, kids aren’t left scratching their head looking all over for the “A”.

Of course, there are other reasons too – like the easier and more familiar categories and the longer timer. But because Word on the Street is a perfect game to play in teams, kids can join in for the fun no matter what version you’re playing.

So what makes Word on the Street great for a party?

For starters – party games that are set up for 2 teams to go at each other can always create some healthy competition. And when you’re with friends and family, that competition will get you going in no time. But what really makes Word on the Street a fun word game is that there really isn’t a lot of pressure on one person.

How can we get that M?

Since you’re playing as a team, you won’t die of stress if you can’t think of that perfect word that has a “V” or “K” in it – chances are that someone on your team will pull through.

So don’t think of this as a party version of Scrabble (if Scrabble is the only word game you’re familiar with), because it’s not even close. Word on the Street is very unique and very fun.

How does it score on the “Let’s Play Again” score meter?

Word on the Street party game
Since we’ve had Word on the Street, we’ve pulled it out at every party and whenever we have a big group ready to play a game. And every time we play it, we can’t stop with just one play.

Inevitably the losing team will call for a re-match and we’re at it again. But that’s just great because the second game is always louder, more energetic, and lasts longer for a lot more fun.

Thanks to Out of the Box for another great family game!

  • I just came across your website and love it! We are a game-playing family and each Christmas try to buy a new game. (I’m also an elemenary teacher so will look at other ideas- for my classroom- on your site). Today I bought “Word on the Street ” and came home to google reviews for it. I came across your site. Glad to see I picked a good one! Really like the video on this site (great job to the young girl who explained the Jr. version).
We also love Settlers of Cataan. Anything that we should buy that would be similar, but not SO similar that it’s just buying another of the same game??
